Dear 'M',

Hope by definition refers to a desire of some good, accompanied with an expectation of obtaining it, or a belief that it is obtainable. However, people use the word hope so widely, giving us a question of whether all hopes are obtainable? Promises and hopes, are they similar or are they related to each other? Obama has made many promises to the Americans when he took over the reign as president of the United States of American. These promises brings about hope to people as the country tries to step out of the dark and trying times of the Bush era. However, if these promises failed to deliver, hopes will be dented. This shows the inter-connection between the two words. So far, he has indeed delivered some of his promises to his people, giving more hopes for a better future for not just US but probably the whole world. However, it remains to see if that will last throughout his 4 years reign as president.

The recent case of the flu outbreak has put a breaks on the world's recovering economy. This gives me a thought of whether the reign of humans on Earth is drawing to a close. Recent article of the Earth coming to an end is fueling more fears of the approaching Armageddon and the "inevitable" extinction of the human race. Besides the solar outage reported recently, there is also the previously discussed topic of the "big wave theory" that will occur in December 21, 2012, the same year as the solar outrage reported. Is the end near or is it just us being too paranoid. Some of my friends are actually thinking of "why should we even study and take examinations when the world is coming to an end". From my point of view, a positive thinking is what we need and we should persevere on reaching our goals no matter what because tomorrow is something you cannot predict nor can you assume. Only then, hopes can be attainable. Nil Sine Labore~

Dear 'M',

Another semester had passed in my university. A lot of things had happened; both good and bad, but it was a worthwhile experience. Although many things had not gone the way I wanted it to be, I'm contented with what I have now and will continue to thrive forward in my life. Have been really busy this semester and didn't really expect my university life to be so hectic. I'm not the one I used to be in terms of conscious capacity but as I continue with my adventures to seek more knowledge, I have come to acknowledge something more important in life, something that I have so far overlooked. Many of you probably will think what it is but you could be mistaken. It's something in life that most had overlooked and might never realize. If that thing were to be some genetic mutation, it would be a silent mutation, never will be detected unless you go about sequencing the DNA sequence and comparing it with the wildtype template. I will not share it here as I feel it is best to be found by each individuals, rather than someone telling you what it is. Alright, I spent 2 hours revamping my blog and it's now two thirty in the morning. Time to go to bed as I need to wake up at six later to go to school for briefing and meetings. Goodnight my friends. Beyond the horizon, there is another one, waiting for you to discover it. ^_^

Dear 'M',

This is the first blog of 2009. Have been really looking forward to a new year since 2008 wasn't that pleasant of a year. A lot of bad things have occurred for me as well as to everyone in the world. We have seen the world struck hard by the sudden collapse of the world economy. We have seen changes in numerous leadership in various parts of the world. We have seen the suddenly usual spectacle of terrorist attacks. Everything seems to be in tatters. What has happened to planet Earth, a place that we so long has stay put in. This reminds me of the movie I recently watched, "The day the Earth stood still". Although the movie didn't end very well for most of us, it does contain the all so important message that humans are actually the key ingredient to disasters. Although this can be skeptical, looking at all the aftermath of recent events as well as the sudden increase in the number of natural disasters that has struck Earth over the past decades, I can't help but to agree with the movie that humans are actually a "dark lord" to Earth. However, we are the species that has the ability to generate deeper and more sophisticated thoughts than do most organisms in the world. Yet, this is also our threat as that brilliance can actually be made to harm. The evidences are for all the see. What I do hope now is for the part in the movie where it mentioned that we human, when faced with adversity, will come out of our normal hard shell to overcome that obstacle and restore what was the initial peace that has long been yield for in the entire existence of the human race. All in all, I wish everyone a great year ahead and let us for this moment hold our hands together and pray to god, the bad is going to end soon.

Dear 'M',

Had a tiring but fun weekend! Went to do old clothes collection with the Sciclub members in the morning. Although it was a tiring process, it's rather fun but the planning is not as nicely planned as we wasted time in waiting for the truck to unload the "goods" before we can load up what we've collected in other sectors. However, it does bring back memories of the numerous charity collections I had done over the years. To my reluctance, I left early as I have to rush to attend a early Christmas gathering with my poly friends at Pasir Ris downtown east. Stepping into the facility, I really felt like I have just been let out of a cage which I have been trapped in for a very long time. The whole place has changed alot. Very different from what I remembered it from the last time I visited the place.

The gathering was really fun, considering the large number of turnout and people returning from their studies overseas. We really did enjoy ourselves and although we have indeed grown up, a number of us still ooze the old familiar presence. I need not mention who the most obvious person is as I guess you all would know who I'm referring to. :P Have been having a bad sleeping pattern lately. Sleeping just before the sky turns into grey. Haha...better stop that soon as school is going to start in the blink of the eye. Anyway, Ailian introduced me to a pianist just now. He's called Rob Costlow. I'm listening to his pieces as I am typing this entry now. I must say they are truly brilliant musical pieces. I am really enjoying those melodies generated from the black and white keys. If you guys are interested, his website "http://www.robcostlow.com/" has the streaming of his piano pieces.

A short description of his life:

By the time he was twelve, Rob Costlow was trying his piano instructor's patience by adding his own endings to songs during lessons and recitals. "I literally despised taking lessons and especially practicing other people's music. It just wasn't for me. I had so many notes running through my head, I wanted to create my own music," admits Rob. This soon brought an end to the lessons that began at age five. Rob realized that his musical future was going to take a different path than the one set by his teachers... ... ...

Dear 'M',

I went swimming today!!! Haha...amazing considering the last time I swam for 2 hour straight none stop was like when I was way back in primary school. At least I did not lose touch with this life skill. Got darker in the process. Haha...feeling very tired now but I in a pretty upbeat mood. Not sure why but I happy I'm feeling this way considering the recent weeks of trauma from exams. Haha...watching Iron Chef on youtube current. I so in love with the show since I was very young back then. I remembered I stayed late in the night just to catch this variety show whereby a guest chef battle out with either of the 4 iron chefs which are considered the best in Japan at that time. I'm also reading my favourite medical thriller books. Currently reading body double by Tess Gerritsen. I so like this genre of books cause as you keep reading, you just can't wait to find out what will happen next!!! Haha...

"A rip-roaring plot with scares and bumps on every page...A first-class modern thriller, but certainly not one for reading at night" A comment on the book by Guardian.
